My jewelry reflects my passion for color & texture. I love the play of light on glass and the contrast between shiny, reflective surfaces and a softly etched, matte finish. The application of glass enamels onto a hot bead yields another subtle variation in surface texture. This interplay between color and texture is expressed in original adornment that is simple, yet powerful; playful, yet sophisticated.
In addition to making glass beads in my studio, I also enamel copper and sterling using my torch to melt the glass directly onto the metal. This is sometimes referred to as ‘painting with fire’. When I am not at my torch, I am at the sink wet-felting hand-dyed wool (the resultant beads add yet another textural element). For the finishing touch, I employ a variety of metal smith processes such as forging, riveting and shaping wire to create original clasps, ear wires, and bracelets. I have been known to include an occasional commercial bead in my work but not before I alter it using various processes such as gilding, etching, and hand-coloring.
Swing Lane Studio specializes in original artisan jewelry created with my own hand made lampwork glass beads; enameled copper and silver; and hand forged findings. Each piece is handcrafted with high standards of workmanship and guaranteed under normal wear. All pieces are fabricated in my studio. The glass beads are annealed for strength and durability.
